CABARROGUIS, Quirino: This landlocked province kicked off the weeklong celebration of its 39th founding anniversary dubbed Panagdadapun on Monday with people from all walks of life gracing said opening at the Quirino capitol compound here.
Various activities have been set for the seven-day celebration of the foundation of Cagayan Valley’s youngest province whose theme this year was the provincial slogan “I Love Quirino.”
Opened with a weeklong agro-industrial trade fair presenting the best that the province could offer in terms of agriculture, industrial crafts and trades, the Panagdadapun, in addition to traditional activities, includes a science-technology caravan, free medical-dental-surgical services and other community service activities.
Gov. Junie Cua, former House appropriations committee chairman during the last Congress, said such community services were part of the provincial government’s integrated service program also dubbed “I Love Quirino.”
Cua, also said that the additional sports activities like the motocross competition, tennis and basketball tournaments to open later were part of the provincial government’s efforts to inculcate this year’s theme “I Love Quirino.”
Founded on September 10, 1971, this province was named after the late President Elpidio Quirino, the country’s sixth chief of state and an Ilocano from Caoayan and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur who served as president from 1948 to 1953.
